Yield:10 servings
  • 1pound red and white striped peppermint candy
  • 1quart heavy cream
  • ¼teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4drops red food coloring
  • Hot fudge sauce

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Coarsely chop one-third of the candy. Reserve. In a food processor, grind remainder of the candy until it is a fine powder.

  2. Step 2

    In large chilled bowl, whip cream with salt until it is stiff.

  3. Step 3

    Fold all the powdered candy and about half of the coarse pieces into the cream.

  4. Step 4

    Add red food coloring, slashing through with knife to make red streaks.

  5. Step 5

    Prepare a 2-quart souffle dish with a foil collar. Fill with mixture and add remaining coarse candy on top. Freeze. Remove foil and serve with hot fudge sauce.

Red food coloring is not needed. The crushed/powdered candy canes give the concoction a nice soft color.

This recipe has always gotten rave reviews from my dinner guests when I have made it...only make it at Christmas holidays. Very easy!

i agree i personaly try to refrain from using food coloring

@bunnies there are a few fabulous natural food colors derived from vegetables and flowers on the market. There is no reason to avoid colorings.
