Preparation

  1. Step 1

Mix vinegar and 2 tablespoons water with green onion and ginger in a bowl. Place tuna in mixture, and marinate about an hour.

  2. Step 2

To cook, remove tuna from marinade; set marinade aside. Press sesame seeds into both sides of tuna. Heat nonstick pan to medium, and add oil. Quickly sear tuna on both sides, just a couple of minutes -- seeds brown quickly. Remove tuna from pan, pour in reserved marinade, and bring to a boil. Pour over tuna, and serve.

Tip
  • Tuna will be very rare. For better done, cook it without sesame seeds and sprinkle them over the tuna after cooking.

I”ve done this three times. I did not use sesame seeds the last two times as I didn’t have any. Tonight I didn’t have any green onions so I used garlic. It doesn’t seem to matter —- it’s delicious every time. Great, simple, quick recipe that my family loves.

2 minutes per side was too much if you want it pink in the middle.

1 minute per side yielded rare tuna…just the way we like it. Used all marinade called for in recipe even though we were only 2. Would double marinade recipe if cooking for 4. Great recipe.

Add lemon juice to the marinade when you boil the marinade before serving. Adds a bright kick!

Wow. This is Ruhlly good! Had just bought a sashimi tuna steak and found this recipe. I used Chunkiang vinegar (and scallions and fresh ginger) to marinate for ~ 2 hours then mixed black and white sesame seeds to coat and cooked 1 minute per side. Definitely a keeper.
