Ingredients
- 1loaf French bread
- 2tablespoons olive oil
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Preparation
- Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Step 2
Cut the bread into ½-inch slices and sprinkle one side with the olive oil. Then grind some black pepper over them.
- Step 3
Place the bread slices on a baking sheet in the oven and bake until golden brown.

Sourdough bread from Aldi... it's already sliced, and easy to cut into cubes. (I grab a loaf of this bread almost every visit, to have one in the fridge and one in the freezer at all times.) Black pepper ground over them. Olive oil, mixed with both hands. Pop into the oven till browned. So easy, and a hit with friends.

Do you cut the bread into cubes before or after cooking?
Torn, not sliced, gives your croutons more nooks and crannies to absorb the vinaigrette. They look better too!
