I usually make the same, but with pomegrante. Sub pomegrante juice for cranberry juice cocktail and several of the seeds in the bottom of the glass, skipping the need to rehydrate dried cranberries. Taste for whether it requires a bit of simple syrup (cranberry juice cocktail has quite a bit of sugar) and voila! a lovely, holiday cocktail. A sugared rim makes it extra festive.

Cointreau IS triple sec. Grand Marnier is not and is sweeter. Cointreau is better for cocktails.

Why not soak the dried cranberries in the liqueur rather than water?

Subbed diet cran juice and was still great. Cranberry garnish is a must.

I love the idea of this martini but dislike the idea of high-fructose corn syrup in cranberry 'cocktail.' So, my version of the recipe uses 100% cranberry juice (cheap at Trader Joe's) and Grey Goose as Ina prescribes, then I up the Cointreau by an ounce, so 1/3c, for additional sweetness. The result is absolutely perfect -- tart and refreshing!! How easy is that?

Making this batched for Ina’s Memoir book club tonight. Adjusted to my liking for 6: 2 1/4 cups pomegranate juice 1 1/2 cups cups vodka 1/2 cup triple sec 1 tbs simple syrup Will shake with ice and pour over rosemary sprig, few pomegranate arils and top with cold sparkling Cremant De Loire
